FREE CHECKLIST
Most local businesses are invisible in search for one of a handful of fixable reasons. Their Google Business Profile is half-filled. Their name, address, and phone number say something different on every directory. They have no reviews, or plenty of reviews and no replies. None of this is complicated to fix. It just rarely gets done, because nobody sits down and works through it in order.
This is that order. Start at the top and check off what is already handled. Whatever is not checked is where your leads are leaking.
For a large share of local searches, your Google Business Profile matters more than your website. It is the first thing people see and often the only thing they act on. Get this right before you touch anything else, because nothing else on this list moves the needle as much.
NAP means Name, Address, Phone. When these do not match across the web, Google stops trusting that your listings all point to the same business, and that lost confidence drags down everything else you do. Consistency here is boring and it is essential.
Every accurate listing of your business is another signal telling Google you are real, established, and where you say you are. The goal is not volume, it is consistency, since one wrong phone number scattered across fifty directories does more harm than good.
Reviews do two jobs at once. They influence where you rank, and they decide whether someone who finds you actually calls. This is the section most businesses under-work, which means it is also where you can pull ahead fastest.
Your Google Business Profile makes claims about your business. Your website has to back them up. These are the on-page signals Google reads to confirm you are genuinely local and genuinely relevant to the area you serve.
This is the long game and the part that separates businesses that rank for a while from businesses that hold the top spot. It takes real effort, which is exactly why most competitors never do it.
Working through this list once is doable in an afternoon. Keeping it current, monitoring your citations, staying on top of reviews, and building local links month after month is the part that quietly falls off when you are busy running the actual business.
That is the part we handle for our clients. If you would rather have someone own your local SEO instead of adding it to your list, book a call and we will take a look at where you stand.
